DDR Dogs Who have bloated / Health benefits of cilantro
« on: July 29, 2015, 10:49:17 AM »
The health benefits of cilantro come from beneficial phytonutrients and antioxidants, especially the flavonoid quercetin. Cilantro is also a good source of dietary fiber and iron, magnesium and manganese.

It's a little-known fact that herbs (and spices) such as cilantro have far greater concentrations of antioxidants than any common fruit or vegetable. Herbs also contain a particularly wide variety of antioxidants as well, which makes them more effective at fighting many different kinds of free radicals.
Possible health benefits of consuming cilantro
Cilantro
Learning how to use fresh herbs and spices like cilantro when cooking can help to cut down on sodium intake.

Consuming plant-based foods of all kinds has long been associated with a reduced risk of many lifestyle-related health conditions. Many studies have suggested that increasing consumption of plant foods like cilantro decreases the risk of obesity, overall mortality, diabetes and heart disease while promoting a healthy skin and hair, increased energy and overall lower weight.

Natural preservative: Because of its high antioxidant content, oil extracted from the leaves of cilantro has been shown to inhibit unwanted oxidation processes when added to other foods, delaying or preventing spoilage. Cilantro leaves have also been found to have an antibacterial effect against Salmonella.

Lead detoxification: Cilantro has been found to suppress lead accumulation in rats, which gives promise for the use of cilantro to combat lead and other heavy metal toxicity. Because of its chelation abilities, cilantro is also being studied as a natural water purifier.

There is a school of thought that thinks Cilantro can calm a canine stomach in the same way its thought to sometimes work in humans. But theres no definitive research showing that this would be a calming remedy for doggie digestion or any other canine ailment.

My Notes: My dogs have been eating Cilantro off and on for a while I mainly use it for its heavy metal detoxification and antioxidants properties. When I do use it its for week or two and about a tablespoon minced per day ground in with a raw meal.

DDR Dogs Who have bloated / DDR Wertmessziffer Rating System
« on: July 28, 2015, 12:22:01 PM »
In the old East Germany the Schutzhund and working dogs were rated by the Wertmessziffer system. In English Wertmessziffer means "measured value number". This system was quick and easy to understand for breeders/buyers wanting to get a look into the conformation and temperament of any dog that had been evaluated and rated.

As an example, a dog with a Wertmessziffer rating of 6545/55 would be a powerfully built dog (6) with ideal constitution (5), good angulation (4). It would be be relaxed and friendly (5) yet very hard when provoked (5). It's courage and sharpness would be very good (5) 6545/55.

This is a chart of the system itself and an example rating.
