DDR Paternal Bloodlines

The sire-line structure behind the East German Shepherd Dog.

Paternal bloodlines follow the direct male sire line through influential producing dogs. In DDR records these lines were used to organize breeding structure, preserve working traits, and document the development of the East German Shepherd Dog.

What is a paternal bloodline?

A paternal bloodline follows only the sire line: father, father’s father, and so on. This is different from the full pedigree. In DDR records these lines are often referred to as ZL or Zuchtlinie.

Korbuch History

DDR Bloodline Timeline

1962–1963 DDR Korbuch

Early DDR Korbuch records listed many Zuchtlinie entries, including I, II, III, IV, V, VIII, XI, XII, XIII, XIII-A and XIV-B. Several of those lines later became extinct or were reorganized.

1971 Changes

Several early lines disappeared from the Korbuch. Line I and III were gone, Line IIA appeared, and surviving lines began consolidating through more influential sires.

1972 XI-A Reorganization

The large XI-A line was divided. XI-A covered sires descending from Rolf v. Osnabruecker Land except Ali v. Gränert. XI-B covered Ali v. Gränert and his sons except Barry v. Andershofer Ufer. XI-C covered Barry and his descendants.

1973–1981 Consolidation

By the early 1980s the remaining active lines were largely V-A, XI-A, XI-B, XI-C, XII and XIII-A, with XI-D and XI-E later becoming important recognized branches.

Preserving DDR lines does not mean standing still.

It means preserving working structure, type, temperament, hardness, genetic identity, and historical continuity while continuing the breed forward.
